Pitching and power propelled the Phillies to a prevailing product in the premiere playoff proceeding, prospering over the punchless Padres.

Wheeler gave the visitors 7 strong innings, and they got blasts from Harper and one from Schwarber that came within a few yards of 500 feet to steal Game 1 in San Diego, 2-0. Padres only managed 1 hit, but put 2 on in the ninth due to a walk and an error, but Machado and Bell couldn't bring either home.

Phillies jumping out early again. Padre fielders are having a lot of trouble with the sun.

Astros take Game 1 in Houston, 4-2, as the Yankees decide that the best way to hand the game to the Astros is to strike out 17 times.

It was mentioned that the Astros are the first team in 4 years to have more HR's (3) than strikeouts (2) in a playoff game since they did it themselves against Cleveland on 10/5/2018.

The Yankees could have done it last night as well. They just needed to hit 16 more homers.

30 K's in two games for the Yankees. Ouch. Houston rides an early 3-run HR from Bregman to a 2-0 lead.

To compound the fact that the Yankees aren't hitting (41 K's now in 3 games), their defense is hurting them as well. The Bronx Bombers had better hope for a 2004 in reverse, because they're in deep trouble.

As much as the Yankees bats can't find the ball, the Phillies have been hitting the cover off of it, pounding out 11 hits and 4 homers, two by Hoskins, in taking Game 4 10-6 and a 3-1 lead in the NLCS. Padres came out hot, putting up 4 in the first, but the Phils cut that to 4-3 before the end of the inning and tied it in the bottom of the fourth. Padres retook the lead in the fifth with a two-run shot from Soto, but the Phillies tied it again with Hoskins's second shot, then took the lead for good on a Harper double that scored Realmuto. Schwarber and Realmuto homered with solo shots in the sixth and seventh to put it away.

Well, the franchise that has more losses than any other team in the history of sports is going to its eighth World Series and their first in 13 years, thanks to Bryce Harper's two-run shot in the bottom of the eighth to erase a 3-2 Padres lead. The Phillies are 2-5 in their previous 7 appearances in the Series, winning their only titles in 1980 (Royals) and 2008 (Rays), losing in 1915 (Red Sox), 1950 (Yankees), 1983 (Orioles), 1993 (Blue Jays), and 2009 (Yankees).

Needless to say, the first #6 seed to make the World Series. They are the 14th wild card to make the World Series, and will be looking to be the eighth to win the Series: 1997 Marlins, 2002 Angels (beat the wildcard Giants in the Series), 2003 Marlins, 2004 Red Sox, 2011 Cardinals, 2014 Giants (beat the wildcard Royals in the Series), and 2019 Nationals.

Nellie had more doubles than strikeouts every year from 1950 to 1963, and more triples (12) than strikeouts (11) in 1951 (682 plate appearances.)
