  • Padres become first team to sell ad space on jersey

Padres and Motorola on Tuesday announced a multiyear partnership that will place the telecommunications company logo on the sleeve of the club's jerseys
"Hope...may be indulged in by those who have abundant resources...but those who stake their all upon the venture see it in its true colors only after they are ruined."

Nellie had more doubles than strikeouts every year from 1950 to 1963, and more triples (12) than strikeouts (11) in 1951 (682 plate appearances.)

If Chico will pay an owner enough money you can bet your ass they'd do it.

Ballplayers will soon be looking like guys on the PGA, walking billboards.
Now coming up to bat for the White Sox is the Mighty Mite, Nelson Fox.

Does anyone much notice the ads on NBA players' jerseys?

                  1. I don't watch the NBA.
                  2. The NBA is not steeped in tradition like MLB (although MLB seems to be doing everything in its power to kill tradition.) The NBA is my age.
                  3. I definitely notice it on Australian Rules Football jerseys.

Whenever the Sox do sell the jersey ad space, I just hope it's not anything embarrassing. Please let it not be a big red arrow pointing down on the sleeve or the giant head of Colonel Sanders or something

The Sox should buy ad space.

Here's some tradition for you. Ebbets Field.

Many, if not most of the old ballparks had advertising plastered on the scoreboard and outfield walls. Tradition.
