  • Soto Rejected Extension...

    Turned down 350 million:

Well of course! How could he possibly get by after his short career on only $350 mill?
Nellie had more doubles than strikeouts every year from 1950 to 1963, and more triples (12) than strikeouts (11) in 1951 (682 plate appearances.)

Makes sense. In two years, he will be a FA. If MLB is still around, he will probably get a much AAV as a FA.

        Actually it is three years.

Hard to turn down that cheese, but he probably wants a shot at another FA in his early 30s vs late 30s. Hopefully, he took that offer to Lloyd's and got some good insurance. It honestly seems fair to me considering they are buying out three years, but what do I know?

You're right. After the '24 season.

Borass told him the best approach was year-to-year until he is a FA. He said he wants to spend his entire career with the Nats. I see a possible conflict of goals.

The main risk of waiting to FA is, of course, a catastrophic injury. But this is Baseball, not Football, so that is not a high probability.

He'll get $500m as long as he keeps playing at his level, so yeah, it makes sense to reject $350m.
