  • Five Thirty Eight: Indexing the Fundamentals

This article focuses on the Yankees, but the table at the end provides a “Fundies” ranking system that balances situational hitting, baserunning, and fielding.

The White Sox rank 8th in MLB. The Rockies are 1st; the Tigers are 30th.

From looking at their rankings there doesn't appear to be much of a correlation between statistical fundamentals and win-loss records.

It's a bit early in the season to make a firm conclusion one way or the other. I think normally over a 162 games you'd see some degree of correlation between fundamentals and win-loss record, but the way the game is played in 2021 it might not matter much anymore.
