A lot of this seems to be about money. The money baseball lost in 2020 may be translating into more teams trying to be competitive on a leaner budget. Supply in the 2021 free-agency market might drive down salaries. If Machado and Harper were free agents this offseason, they wouldn't be getting the insane offers they ended up with. Adam Eaton got $1 million not to play for the Nationals in 2021. I don't believe he is likely to get $9 million from another team to make the salary he would have made if Washington had picked up his option.

I'm willing to not play for the Nationals for half that.

            No surprise.

Marcus Stroman off the board, accepting QA from Mets. Not that he'd sign here anyway.

Deadline is 5pm today for anyone else to accept the QA.

I figured Stroman would do much better in free agency than the QO, but maybe his representation knows that this year’s spending will be ridiculously low across the league.

It's being reported that he's a huge fan of the vision of their new ownership group, and wanted to give the Mets a chance to turn it around before signing elsewhere or re-upping long term.

In regards to market, the next best guy (Kevin Gausman) is reportedly ready to turn down his qualifying offer because he's got multiple larger, multi-year offers already. Hard to believe any team offering Gausman wouldn't have engaged in the much better and safer Stroman.

Stroman and Gausman accepted qualifying offers. Only Realmuto, LaMeahieu, Bauer, and Springer declined.

Kim Ng has been named GM of the Marlins per Heyman and Rosenthal. First female GM ever in baseball.

I didn't know she got her career started as an intern with the White Sox. Kind of a cool fun fact.

What a great hire by Miami. After reading some background on her, she's probably the most qualified first time GM in baseball. Good luck to her and the Marlins.

Clevinger undergoes Tommy John. Could the Indians possibly have known?
