  • Jose Abreu appreciation thread

I’ll start this off by saying that Jose was as consistent as any White Sox player I have ever seen.
The man was an RBI machine and his numbers would have been even better if he didn’t have such hard starts with the cold weather.
I really thought that he would re-up with the Sox but as some have said, something happened last year with not just him but the whole team, maybe one of these days we will find out the whole truth.
    Good luck to Mr. Consistency.
Now coming up to bat for the White Sox is the Mighty Mite, Nelson Fox.

He was the face of the team for just under a decade. He was consistent, everyone on the team loved him, he ably filled the enormous shoes he was asked to step into. It's just a shame that he was here for one of the worst stretches of White Sox baseball.

Despite being here for one of the worst stretches of White Sox baseball, he only had 1 less appearance in the postseason than Konerko and the same number of appearances as Thomas.

      Isn't that sad?

It's very sad. His talents were essentially wasted here. I'd bolt for a championship contender too.

But that's neither here nor there, this is an appreciation thread. No White Sox player will ever wear #79 again.

Sorry, but I became a fan during the Don Gutteridge Era.

The past few years have been paradise in comparison.

I was spared the Gutteridge years. I was in the Army.
Nellie had more doubles than strikeouts every year from 1950 to 1963, and more triples (12) than strikeouts (11) in 1951 (682 plate appearances.)

              I'm happy for Jse.

Houston is warmer than Chicago in April and May.

Good player who played hard for the Sox. He'll get a great chance to go deep into the playoffs and maybe win a championship ring.

“José Abreu deservedly belongs among the roster of White Sox franchise all-time greats,” Reinsdorf said. “His determination and commitment to the game each and every day made him the consummate professional, always leading by example. It was my fervent hope that José would never wear another uniform, as I told him many times throughout the years. Unfortunately, hope is not always translated into reality. While we ended up in different places in the business side of the game, José and I always shared the same love of baseball.

“I am grateful to José for his friendship, and the impact he made for the White Sox franchise both on the field and in the community. I want to thank him for always representing the values of the White Sox organization and the great city of Chicago — strength, hard work, pride and tenacity. His legacy is written in the White Sox record books forever.”

.292 lifetime hitter (.860 OPS) over 9 seasons. The power numbers were down, no question. .992 lifetime fielding percentage. As mentioned, he was the face of the franchise for 9 seasons. Going to be really tough to see him in another uniform, especially THAT uniform.

Mrs FielderJones said that the Astros wanted a player that wouldn't get booed at GRF.

He is an excellent player, with a lot of heart or drive or whatever you want to call it. I don't blame him at all for wanting to play on a winning team.

I wish him well, except against the White Sox. 😀

I will take this a different direction. I am grateful that my son got to grow up watching the work ethic, personality, and talents of the man. I cannot fathom what he has gone through in his life, but I can tell you he has always been a class act and I am glad my son had a hero like Jose. Thank you Jose.

Adios Jose… Enjoyed your time in the Pale Hose. Came to play everyday and brought your A game. As others have stated, best of luck further on, but not at the expense of the Beloved. Save those moments for taking down the Yankmes.

Thank you Jose- the night you hit for the cycle- legging out a triple late in the game is my favorite memory (of many) of your time with the White Sox.

I will be rooting for you to get a well-deserved World Series ring with the Astros, and I will be there at GRF on May 12th to give you the standing ovation you deserve.
