OK, maybe not officially over, but you know what tonight means.

On the plus side, I did win Sox Math for the third time tonight.

Cleveland has Miles more heart than we have. That was evident tonight. We played not to lose. Bullpen was a total disaster.

Cleveland's looking to be a younger version of Houston. They don't have a lot of power, but they take advantage of any mistake you make.

Which is what winning teams do, and the Sox are not one of them.

Things I love, relievers who walk the first guy they see. The roster was flawed all year. This was inevitable.

Everyone knew this was going to happen, but wanted to believe it wouldn't . like i've been saying for almost every year, for almost 60 years . well, there's always next year . but i'm damn tired of saying that.

                It’s over for 2022.

But it’s not over for this core.

It won’t take a lot to get better - mostly just getting healthy.

Last offseason, due to the insipid lockout, team trainers (or any team personnel) could not talk to the players, and I think as a result several players got into some bad training habits - specifically overtraining the center of large muscles - which led to the additional predilection for injury this season.

I think a full offseason for TA, Robert, and Moncada, will have these guys back to good health and plus production in 2023.

Eloy is just now showing what a force he can be.

And Colas will bring defense to RF and balance to the lineup.

Oh, and someone besides TLR as manager.

                We aren’t far away.

Time to shut down Robert for the season. No need for TA to come back either. Get healthy. This has officially become the least favorite Sox season of my life. I cannot believe we sat through years of a rebuild to watch an uninspired, unlikable team piss away a division that is easily the worst in baseball. Should have won this by 15 games. Just a brutal year. Trying to cope by telling myself they would have gotten embarrassed in the playoffs anyway.

I'll put this team alongside the 1995-96 Terry Bevington White Sox as least likeable- very few fun memories from this season.

I disagree with the assessment that "we're close", "we just need to get healthy", etc.

We're now a ~.500 team since the middle of 2021- a span of >200 games- we're 6th in runs scored, 7th in team ERA, and last in team fielding- 5.5 games out of the 3rd wild card spot- we are miles behind the elite teams in the AL.

After all this rebuild stuff- we mired in mediocrity.

The Francona-Cairo mismatch is only exceeded by the Chernoff-Hahn mismatch.
A serious organization v. friends and family is not a fair fight.
LaRussa and injuries were contributing factors, but this season was lost due to the FO's absolutely idiotic offseason.

Kinda like a 69 Chevelle with a 1600 cc 4 cylinder engine. Looks good from afar, but when it has to get off the line, runs like a go cart at Walmart.

Had some great games this season, but the stinkers were like getting stuck in the buffet at a fart festival.

Yep. Once you get the core in place you have to spend to shore up the other areas of need. SP, 2B, RF were holes that were not addressed. Horrible defense and the worst base running in the league were too much to overcome.

This game was pretty much a microcosm of the entire season. It had its ups and downs, you thought the Sox were out of it and then a late rally pulls them back in, and then, finally, imploding at the end, with a last gasp rally coming up short.

They won't do it until they are officially eliminated, but its time to shut Robert down and let his wrist fully heal. If he's medically cleared, let LaRussa come back and finish out the year with the expectation that he'll re-retire again once its over. Have the team bus "accidentally" leave Diekman in Minneapolis or San Diego. Start putting a plan together to retool for 2023, because, despite the talent and expectations, this team has been headed in the wrong direction for far too long.
