  • R.I.P. Bob Locker

Part of one of the best relief staffs the Sox ever had in 1967. Locker, Wilhelm and Wood.

Here is a write up on him for the ones too young to remember him.

1967, a coulda, whoulda, shoulda year. Great starters and bullpen with Locker and his great sinker ball, they just couldn’t hit.

Now coming up to bat for the White Sox is the Mighty Mite, Nelson Fox.

Bob was one of the guys that you knew if he came in the game could shut them down and give us a chance to scratch out another win. He wasn’t lying about getting them to hit worm burners and getting that DP when you needed it. As you say, too bad that last week turned into such a cluster****.

I recall from either the back of Bob's baseball card or an old Sox yearbook that he resided in Clarendon Hills for a while - same little suburb that I lived in for close to 30 years.

'67 was my first year following the team. May he rest in peace.

RIP Bobby. You were a fine reliever during some challenging years for the Sox. Don't forget a fourth contributor to that excellent '67 pen: Don McMahon.

You moved out, Chez? Still here after 32 years.

Yep. Kids are grown. We sold the house and down-sized in January 2021 and moved 4 miles southeast to Western Springs. I do miss the Hills, but the time was right to make the move.
