Thanks for over-managing, Dusty. Urquidy had Andrew Vaughn's number all game long. Big hit by Andrew against Montero to extend the inning.

Yes, thank you Dusty! Curious decisions for sure. Gotta give credit to Eloy for locking in when he was down 0-2, Yaz for working a walk, and YoYo for staying with an aggressive approach. Very exciting win!

A couple of big moments in that 8th inning that kind of got lost:

                1. Pollock getting the single to drive Urquidy from the game. AJ went 2-4 in the leadoff spot to take his average when hitting in the 1 spot to .398. His best average at any other spot in the order where he has at least 10 AB is 7th, where he's hitting .243.
                2. Grandal drawing the walk on six straight changeups that led to Moncada getting a belt-high fastball on the first pitch that he sent to center and drove in the two runs to get the win.

We honestly need a split or better out of this series, and we're halfway to the minimum. Cease has never had good luck vs. Houston (0-3 in his career with a 6.60 ERA) but he did not pitch against them in the series in Houston in mid-June. Going to be a huge duel vs. Verlander, who despite all of his success may be having his best season of his career.

Not only that... Montero had just pitched last night for the Astros, giving up 2 runs in 0.1 innings. Seems like something La Russa would do - throw the guy right back out there to "show confidence in him," only to have him struggle again and ruin his confidence even more.

It's well past the point where you can say Cueto is getting by on smoke and mirrors or he's getting lucky or anything like that. He's legitimately one of the best pitchers in the AL. He's just an absolute joy to watch on the mound.

Don't look now, but AJ, Eloy, and Vaughn have been pretty darn amazing the last few games...

He is a joy to watch. Gives an old fart like me flashbacks to when pitchers used a toolbox and guile to do battle with the opposition.

With a good game from him you need one reliefer, the others you need three.
