Man that was needed. Just glad to get out of the spin if for one day only. Thank you Jake Burger. Thank you, Liam Hendriks and Kyle Crick. Thank you for the end result, Mr. Graverman.

Just enough and that's just fine.

Need to start hitting home runs. Way too many ways to fail with the make contact and hope scheme.

    For today...

Garcia, Moncada, Abreu, Robert, Grandal, all oh-fer. Leury leading off, the rest of them supposed to be part of the "core" of the team. Still nothing to get excited about offensively.
Nellie had more doubles than strikeouts every year from 1950 to 1963, and more triples (12) than strikeouts (11) in 1951 (682 plate appearances.)

True, but they've faced 4 of the estimated top 10 Cy Young candidates so far just this week. Survive til Tim comes back. Giolito throws well tomorrow, life might look better.

This was a pleasant surprise. I had the game on with the sound off while I was grilling outside, one minute the Sox are down 2-0 and looking lifeless and the next they’re up 3-2. A favorable pitching matchup today gives them a chance for a series win, which would also give them the season series 4-2 over the Rays.

I wasn’t watching too closely…. Is Kyle Crick good now? 3.18 ERA on the season.

Crick had some fantastic movement on his pitches last night. Who knows if can be sustained, but he definitely had a look of confidence last night.

Let's get this train started. I hope we never have to play on that turf again. It has to be just awful on joints. I have no idea how any Rays player is ever healthy.

Kevin Kiermaier sure has been hurt a lot except this year he's staying healthy. Franco is on the IL as is Brandon Lowe. Choi and Margot were on the IL list earlier so the Rays also have had their share of injuries and their best pitcher is still recovering from TJS.

That was a nifty play by Mendick to end the 8th. Atop the (long) list of things I don't understand about this FO is their penchant for signing utility infielders, when they have ample supply available at salary minimums. Sanchez in AAA is another one ready and waiting (and Rule 5 eligible).
Grandal and Moncada need to start hitting.
Love Burger and his bat, but he's looking like Panda.

in the 8th i really liked how engel hustled to 2nd on his pop fly to be able to score on mendick's hit. not many sox would have done that.
