It'll be interesting to see if they make any adjustments to the rotation, like skipping a certain close-to-being-DFA'ed starter.Comment

I don't think Keuchel will be dfa'd (anytime soon). Cueto's minor league numbers are pedestrian at best and Lynn isn't due back until June. Plus many of us have been bitching about the lack of starting pitching depth in the organization. Even as merely a depth piece, Keuchel is woth hanging on to. He sure looked good on Sunday.

Keuchel isn't going anywhere until closer to the trade deadline, IMO. Have to see how VV holds up and if Cueto has anything to offer. Also, I believe I read earlier today Cueto has to be on the roster by Sunday otherwise he can opt out of the deal with the Sox.Comment

I am kind of assuming that it will be sort of a competition between Cueto and Keuchel, for the rest of the month until Lynn returns. Once Lynn is back, a decision has to be made as to who will be the 5th starter. The deck is probably stacked in Keuchel's favor, mostly because I can't imagine Keuchel being the least bit effective out of the bullpen - he would be DFA'ed before they move him to a relief role. But Keuchel will have to be more effective than he was in his previous few outings (before his last start against Boston) in order to win that competition. Cueto had an ERA of around 4.0 last year, compared to Keuchel's which was well over 5. There's not much to suggest that Keuchel is a better long-term bet than Cueto, at this point.
There's also the possibility of a phantom IL stint for Kopech, to give him rest and keep his innings down. Or a real IL stint to any one of the starters, for that matter, making this whole discussion moot.Comment

Cueto is starting tonight for Charlotte. After that, he would be lined up to pitch one of the games of the double-header against the Royals on Tuesday. Yes, he would need to be added to the roster by 5/15 or he can opt out of his contract with the Sox and become a free agent.

Looks like it's the Cleveland coaching staff, not the players. https://www.mlb.com/whitesox/news/gu...stponed-may-11Comment

I bet the game gets made up on Thursday, July 21. It’s the end of the All Star Break and Cleveland is scheduled to visit the Sox for a Friday-Sunday series anyway.
If so, it would appear to be an advantage for the Sox, who - depending on who might pitch in the All Star game - could align the rotation to have Giolito, Cease, Kopech, and Lynn face the Guardians in that series. Ideally even Eloy would be back, and July weather would tend to favor Sox power bats.Comment
