Rain looks like it will push out in next 20 minutes then they should have 2 hour window to finish.

Graveman got an absolute gift but maybe it balances out an earlier non-call for the Sox.

No Vaughn or Burger today. Grandal is DH again. Leury playing 2B. Sheets is in RF.

I get the desire to have more LH bats in the lineup to counteract a RH starter.

And yes, it’s understandable because the Sox have struggled against RHP because they have been RH hitting dominant for a long time - decades, really. (We can count on one hand the number of above average LH hitters the Sox have had since 1980: Baines, Ventura, Thome, and Moncada. Maybe you can count peak Valentin and Grandal, too.)

And I’m glad the Sox seem to be addressing it organizationally by drafting and signing international amateur LH hitters like Montgomery, Kath, and Colas. And yes, it will be improved somewhat when Moncada returns.

All that said, perhaps they need to trade from their stockpile of RH hitters to acquire more LH hitters, because it’s just preposterous and pathetic that we continue to rely on Leury Garcia - who actually is worse as a LH hitter than as a RH hitter - to provide some sort of “platoon advantage.”

I wonder if the Sox could get Ryan McMahon from the Rockies, for a package built around Jake Burger?

This has not been a great game for the first base umpire.

The FO had an entire offseason to do that. And they chose not to.
                    No time for desperation trades.

Hello. Been lurking here since the year 2000. Even if Rodon’s arm fell off by the All Star break his contract would have been worth it. What was it $18 M QO? He would have stayed for 2 years. If they really were pinching pennies why give Garcia 3 years $15 M when their were internal options? This losing streak would have never happened.

I’m not interested in desperation trades for over the hill veterans, but if you can get a LH hitting 2B like Ryan McMahon, who is 27 and locked up for several more years, for, say Burger, Yolbert Sanchez and Andrew Dahlquist, I think you pull the trigger. McMahon would then be your starting 2B for the next half decade.

Rosters get cut down to 26 tomorrow. Teams are limited to 14 Pitchers. TLR said the Sox will probably get rid of one position player and one Pitcher.

                          Any guesses who?

If mendick is around I think he's gone. They need Burger until Moncada comes back.

                            Pitching Severino goes down.

Severino seems like the obvious choice for the pitcher. The position player will likely be Mendick, but may end up being Sheets. With as often as Grandal has been DHing and McGuire catching, Sheets could be a man without a position in this roster crunch.
