  • Sox vs Cubs- Parking Lot Warning (Leave Early)

In Jon Greenberg's column in The Athletic, they quoted Brooks Boyer addressing recent traffic issues at the ballpark for big weekend series like the Yankees a couple weeks ago. He said that less people are taking the L and Ubers to the ballpark due to COVID which is putting more stress on the exit ramps and parking lots. Boyer said they have 7400 spaces available at the ballpark itself before they have to go to the remote lots off site. They are expecting upwards of 9000 cars per game this weekend for the crosstown series. Even if you have a parking pass for the game, I recommend leaving early. My brother and I had a prepaid pass and went to the sold out Saturday Sox vs Yankees game and it took us over 2 hours to get to the parking lots coming from Des Plaines. Almost 40-45 minutes of that commute was just trying to exit at 35th street and make it to the "green" lots on 37th st. The backup was THAT bad. Had we not left at 3:15 for a 6pm start, we would have been late for the game. I'm going Saturday myself and plan on leaving even earlier this time. Just wanted to pass this information along for anyone going this weekend.

Come on, the Sox never draw more than 20,000 to a game.

I had a similar experience, at the same game. I also left not long after 3 for the 6:00 game, thinking I would get there early and walk around the park a bit. I ended up circling around the park in traffic for over two hours, finally parking in one of the offsite lots by ITT. I ended up missing the first 1.5 innings.

We went Sunday of the Yankee series and took an hour to go from 31st to 37th, when we finally went left and parked in Bronzeville.

I had the same experience a few weeks ago too. Sunday I’m planning on just parking by my friends place in the Gold Coast that I’m going to the game with and hopping on the red line. Not worth it waiting in that traffic. I even have a residential parking pass for the streets just west of the park but have only been using it for weeknight games lately.

There’s a lot east of the Dan Ryan by ITT that has Sox security that I recommend too. Come in from lake shore and it’s much easier to park.

Traffic flow and seemingly endless work on the freeways seems to have always been an issue.
