  • Deep dive on Dylan Cease

I was going to post this in the game thread that was talking about Cease, but I thought it deserved its own topic. Jordan Luzowski recently did a deep dive on Dylan Cease and his improvements since last year. It’s long, but worth the read if you’re interested in understanding his progression.

Dylan Cease getting from point A to point B this year is another boar’s head for the Ethan Katz mantle.

I think a lot of the mechanical improvements discussed in the article, like the more consistent release point, the repeatability of his delivery, and the more efficient spin, can be directly traced to Katz. And to think, these improvements were all based on an off-season where the only contact the two had with each other was over zoom. Maybe with a normal off-season, Cease can get to point C, which for him is a TOR ace.

He even made Reynaldo Lopez better! That’s some Cesar Millan **** right there.

Check out the tunneling on Cease's fastball and curve. One ends up at the top of the zone, the other in the dirt. Both generate ugly swings and misses.

Cease and Rodon have the best "stuff" on the team. Its funny when you think about it because each of these guys weren't guarantee starting jobs at the beginning of the season. A lot of credit goes to themselves and Katz for cleaning up their mechanics
