  • Gamblers unhappy with the White Sox

    https://soxmachine.com/2021/08/05/10...-for-baseball/

Lucas Giolito's wife got a nasty instagram message from a gambler last night after her husband's poor performance cost him some money. Zack Collins tweeted about unspecified death threats he received - possibly also linked to gambling.

It took baseball 100 years to get comfortable with gambling again after the Black Sox scandal and gamblers seem intent on ruining the good thing they've got now.
"Hope...may be indulged in by those who have abundant resources...but those who stake their all upon the venture see it in its true colors only after they are ruined."

A few stupid people hiding behind internet anonymity nothing more. This isn't the Mob threatening to break legs. It's easier than ever to contact celebrities via Social Media. This is a nothing burger of a story, IMO. Just block the trolls and move on...

There is a terrific review of this today by Jim Margulis regarding the history of baseball and gambling. Why MLB would want to risk something unseemly taking place again is beyond me.

MLB should take 100% responsibility for this.

No, check that. Manfred, you are 100% responsible for this. Manfred should, out of his pocket, provide full time security to all MLB players and their families.

You made deals with all those bottom-feeding sports books, you live with it, Manfred.

Why are Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe still banned from the HOF when MLB is snuggled up nice and tight with gamblers????

Cubs getting flack today as they have announced plans with drawings to build a two story addition at Wrigley Field to house a sportsbook.

They’re hypocrites Jerry. Don’t want to say the “book” is as a old as baseball, it’s lore, and yes… The 1919 Sox weren’t the only team to throw games. They just were paraded through town as the example and to the gallows.

What did Jackson do? Nothing illegal. .375 BA in the World Series, zero errors. It was never proven that he (or the others) did what they were accused of doing. The circumstantial evidence (his play during the Series) does not suggest he laid down or otherwise caused the Sox to lose any of the games.

Ya heard about this. I'm sure some idiot is offended by it and has to sit in their safe space the rest of the day.

First, that a player's family is involved is sickening. Next, it's called "betting" for a reason. If the clown can't afford to lose, then don't bet. And my advice to this fool is don't invest a penny into the stock market because it doesn't always go up.

If it doesn't make sense, it's because of money.

Giolito has been a play against all season long. Whoever is threatening him is not a good gambler and should look in mirror and threaten himself.
