    Apparently, they're DFA-ing Herrerra!

Good deal. Thought Goins would be the one going down and not Herrera, but he's been pretty bad so it's fine.

We’ve improved the defense, the bullpen, and the long-term financial flexibility of the organization, in one fell swoop!

Great news. Now that the service time issue is over, they may as well get him major league at bats and start getting him acclimated to MLB pitching asap. Even if he doesn't hit the ground running, this gives him some experience heading into the start of 2021.

At the very least, our defense is getting a huge boost with this move.

Question: how long before Sox fans start crying "bust" if he gets off to a slow start? I'll give it until tomorrow.

Tonight’s starting lineup might be the strongest defense we have fielded since 2005, or even 1993. I realize Engel will be supplanted by Maraza eventually, but

            Engel RF
            Robert CF
            Moncada 3B
            Anderson SS
            Madrigal 2B

is pretty stout (even if Anderson is error-prone, he has incredible range).

Would look even better with Grandal behind the plate. I'm not sure why Renteria is set on McCann being Keuchel's personal catcher when Grandal's ability to steal low strikes would seem to pair perfectly with Keuchel's pitching style.

The comparison to the lineup they put out one year ago today is comical.

I have no memory of a player named AJ Reed

The "bust watch" will start if he's 0 for 2.

Not sure if you're serious or not, but he was the former top prospect they picked up off waivers to try to fill in after Alonso was DFA'ed. It didn't go well.

Are we sure Engel is going to get the nod over Delmonico? That's my only concern.

                          Yes, we are sure.

When Mazara comes up, Delmonico becomes completely superfluous and should be outrighted/DFA’d. Goins, too.

Leury, Mendick, and Engel provide plenty of defensive flexibility, particularly given that Collins, Encarnación, and Grandal all can play 1B, too.

Keuchel recorded 17 outs and left the game with a big fat goose egg on the scoreboard against the Twins. That same Twins lineup lit up the rest of the pitching staff like a clearance aisle Christmas tree.
