  • *OFFICIAL* 6/1/21 Lamb Rocks The Jake by the Lake CLE 6 3 SOX 5 Postgamer

Bullpen did well in relief tonight. Crochet in particular looked filthy.

The lineup did a good job plating runs in the 9th, but it wasn’t enough.

Maybe Lamb - he of the .882 OPS - needs to get some starts at DH v. RHP. Mercedes is slumping badly and should be benched against RHP.

Stone observed that Karinchak had a black foreign substance in his red glove.

Yeah nice to see the bullpen pitch well. Shame this game got out of hand. Crochet coming back strong is a great sign. Hopefully he turns the corner and becomes the guy we know he can be. Burr with two nice outings the last couple days. Got the whole backend available tomorrow. Hopefully Lynn can go 6 on short rest. Hopefully TA continues to click because when he's rolling at the top of the order good things happen.

Exciting finish, but it couldn't quite make up for the early shoddy play. Get the split tomorrow afternoon.

Tough loss, almost came back to take the lead in the 9th with Jose at bat.
Need to win tomorrow to get back to a 3.5 game lead.
Now coming up to bat for the White Sox is the Mighty Mite, Nelson Fox.

Not Exactly, I believe Stone said Karinchak had a black spot in his glove.

This is the definition of a tough luck loss. So many weakly hit Cleveland balls turned into hits. If you played this game 100 times, I bet the Sox win like 75% of the time.

Sox bats better come alive against the 20.00+ ERA guy starting tomorrow. No I did not misplace a period.

Ok, I was paraphrasing, but the implication was clear; Stone and Benetti were insinuating that the black spot was a foreign substance given the way he touched both his fingers and his thumb, and then flipped the ball several times between his glove and his hand.

Earlier this season a fan posted video of him going to the glove and touching something on the fingers of it.

I knew they weren't going to beat Beiber, never do.

Tomorrow is a really important game, win and you split the series and drive Cleveland back to 3 1/2 behind.

Lose? Well...let's not think about that especially against a guy with an astronomical ERA.

Mercedes now 0-19 if I've got it right.

Jose had a poor game as well.

Something about Cleveland just gives the Sox fits. They are getting the best of the Royals and Tigers (a refreshing change) and doing nicely against Minnesota...but the Indians just give them fits going back to last year especially that final four game series which was a disaster. They've lost eight of their last 11 games played in Cleveland.

Billy Hamilton deserves some props. I had no idea when we signed him that he was as much of a play as hard as you can every play type of guy. It's really refreshing and he is busting his ass to stay on this team. Too bad we couldn't secure the win. Reminiscent of game 2 against the A's in the playoffs where Jose comes up with a chance to be the hero and can't get it done. It seemed like too much of a pitcher's pitch to be swinging up 2-0 in the count but he is the MVP so he's earned some leeway.

Jose was player of the week because he hunts RBI's, even to the extent of trying to pull an outside pitch on 2-0 against a struggling pitcher with the bases jammed and grounding out to the left side, duh. OR RBI's are an old stat dependent on the OBP guys who hit ahead of you. Pick your poison. Yermin hit the ball hard once or twice and doesn't look overmatched. Lamb could use some AB's, what the hey. Tough luck early, but Cease hurt his own cause in the final analysis.

Two sensational slides at home in the 2nd. Who's the baserunning coach? Boston? Or did Raines come back on the sly. 😁
Ah, you can't beat fun at the old ball park.

Was an exciting finish and Billy Hamilton adds a spark and is great fun to watch . looking at the radar, doubtful that they will get today's game in.

I felt pretty confident with Jose up in the 9th. Just wasn't our night - Cleveland had a bunch of infield and weak contact hits. Cease's numbers are worse than the way he threw the ball. Glad to see Crochet finally getting some regular work out of the bullpen.

In regards to Bieber, the Sox should have beaten him yesterday. Unfortunately, Collins was not able to block the slider Cease threw to strike out Rosario in the 1st which led to the inning being prolonged and the Indians to take a 2-0 lead. Sox took the lead after that, but Cease was not able to hold the lead. Bieber was beatable yesterday but the Sox did themselves no favors early in the game.

This was vintage Cease, needing six or seven pitches just to get a batter out even if he gets up 0-2. I think he's a pitcher that can't afford to nibble, because he doesn't have pinpoint control yet. I can live with hits on an 0-2 count if the pitch is an aggressive attempt to get the batter out.

Interesting observation by Margalus on a subtle mechanical change that Lamb made in mid-May that has let to very good results, in an albeit small sample size.

Edit: Here's a comment from Lamb where he acknowledges that he dropped the leg kick in response to inconsistent playing time.
