  • *OFFICIAL* 5-14 DH Game 1 Royal Pain KC 6 SOX 2 Postgamer

The collision was the turning point of this game.

I also think the Sox need to juggle their rotation to avoid Giolito throwing day games whenever possible.

Let’s start a new six game winning streak tonight.

I'll take a few losses if it means Abreu doesn't miss significant time.

I think his stuff looked real good today. The wind helped the two homers today, though they were mistakes in location.

This is not a criticism of Collins, because I’m sure today he worked on a game plan with Kopech for Game 2. He would not have had reason or occasion to game plan with Giolito, or even warm up with him. But switching to Collins in the middle of inning probably resulted in a mixup that gave rise to the HR on the next pitch.

I was wondering if Giolito's mind wasn't totally on executing that pitch too, his first warmup pitch was to the screen too. He had a real close look at that collision and I wonder if he was a bit shook up too. I'm not that worried about Giolito right now.

I’m not criticizing LaRussa, but the move I would have made to replace Abreu would be Vaughn into 1B, and then Mendick into LF. I realize that puts another RH hitter in the game against a RHP rather than the LH Collins, but I’d rather not change the catcher mid-inning just to replace the first baseman.

TLR felt Giolito pitched a good game, only 5 hits, both homers were wind blown, normally fly outs to the warning track, they were able to take advantage of the wind blowing to the right field and we didn't.
Steve Stone, after the collision and time delay he felt Taylor was sitting on a first pitch fast ball and hit it out.

According to Stone, Katz has a meeting with Grandal and Collins, going over hitters. Katz later meets with the pitching staff to go over hitters, apparently 2 separate meetings.

That makes sense, but even by the second inning Grandal would have a better idea of what is working and what isn’t working with Giolito, than would Collins coming in off the bench in the middle of the inning.

TLR being an apologist, Stone stating the obvious.
Ah, you can't beat fun at the old ball park.

An apologist for what?, take away 2 wind blown homers and Giolito only gives up 3 hits.

I believe the thinking was, with the wind blowing toward RF, get a left handed bat with some pop into the 4 hole.

Let's take away the three walks, too.

Yes, I understand that thinking, too.
