Has he been vaccinated? It sounded like most of the team got vaccinated on the off-day Friday, but since Cease was scheduled to start on Sunday I wonder if he pushed his vaccine back and might be experiencing symptoms related to the vaccine.
I'm not saying that's what happened here, but there could be a million possibilities in play here.

I know that Moncada contracted the virus last season in Spring Training but did the Sox have anyone affected by it during the 60 game season? Amazingly I can't recall that they did. I faintly remember someone needing to quarantine briefly as a precaution but then rejoined the team without issue a few days later.

Vaccine doesn't reach full immunity for 2 weeks. Cease was vaccinated 6 days ago. If he encountered someone with COVID since Thursday he could have come down with it. Hopefully he didn't start thinking he was immune and engage in risky behavior.

Hopefully he just has a cold and is being cautious.
The Washington Nationals had to start the season with 11 players on the IL due to a COVID-19 outbreak. You could see far worse than just Reynaldo Lopez emerge from Schaumburg if something like that happens with Cease."Hope...may be indulged in by those who have abundant resources...but those who stake their all upon the venture see it in its true colors only after they are ruined."

....and of course, the vaccines aren't 100% effective. People can still get Covid even 2 weeks after being fully vaccinated. However, they're supposed to be nearly 100% effective in preventing someone from getting seriously ill even if they do get Covid.

Also, was that his first shot (if Pfizer or Moderna)? If so, he wouldn't reach full immunity until 2 weeks after his 2nd dose.

Doesn't Cease have to wait 10 days (retroactive to his last appearance) before he can come off the IL?
