Another serious blow to our division title hopes.

This team has gone into a dive big time, and can't seem pull out of it.

Step one to building a contender is to win the games you're supposed to. We're there. We had a schedule full of cake and ate all the cake better than anyone.

Step two is beating the good teams and the tough pitchers. We simply can't do that yet. Pitching is a shade under that level (which we probably knew going into the season), and the offense's over-aggressive approach is likely more susceptible to elite pitching. This offseason will be key.

Maybe the strategy was to secure a playoff berth and then immediately tank for the highest draft pick still possible?

Just not hitting; hopefully it turns around. Bullpen is over-worked because the young starters can barely get 6 on a good day. Pen basically down to 4 trustworthy pitchers and a couple of other guys you can throw in there to start a clean 5th or 6th inning. Having a starter in the pen in the playoffs should extend the pen some, though.
Rickey/Cooper have been kind of neutral most of the season to me, but they're starting to spit the bit a bit.

Still 4 games left. Win tomorrow and we're tied for 1st again. Cincinnati is fighting for a playoff spot so those games should be tough. Yes we get the Cubs who have a playoff spot already secured and will have probably secured the division as well. Not saying that those games won't be easy. We just have to match the total number of wins over the weekend that the Twins end up with as we hold the tie breaker over them.

But we need to win tomorrow. (Thursday)

Offense struggling back end of the bullpen completely ragged due to injuries and a lot of tough games recently. Not sure why Gio threw that strike.

Twins get the Reds while we get the Cubs, so I think we have the more favorable matchup. The problem is we still have to beat the Indians tomorrow otherwise they're a game back, play three with the Pirates, and have the tiebreaker over us. Essentially, if we don't win tomorrow, anything but sweeping the Cubs means we're probably going to lose the division. And even that assumes Minnesota doesn't sweep to stay ahead.

Gio should not have been out there anyway. If Colomé was able to go, he should have been the guy. Don’t save the high-leverage guy for a save situation he may not even see.

Luplow hits .088 vs righties and .303 against lefties, but after the game it sounded like Ricky thought Gio would be fine because Crochet struck Luplow out

Trying to look at the bright side -- both Lopez and Giolito pitched great.
