  • MLB will require teams to provide housing for minor leaguers in 2022

ESPN's Jeff Passan is reporting that MLB will require that teams provide housing, either directly or through stipends, starting in 2022. The total cost per team is expected to be less than $1 million.

I'm surprised they weren't doing this before.

I can see the day coming that the Minors Leagues due to costs will be drastically cut to maybe the AA and AAA levels, if that. MLB will rely more on the colleges to devolop players like football and basketball. We also will probably see the formation of more Independent leagues, doesn't the Chicago area have a team in Schaumburg?

The Chicago Dogs, Schaumburg Boomers, and Kane County Cougars are all independent league teams.
