  • Sox Prospects/Minor Leagues Thread

There won't be much to discuss this year since the MiLB season has been cancelled, but here's an article about Jake Burger making his way back to live game action this year (in this year's Collegiate League).

Here's a video clip of a HR he hit yesterday in that league:

I'm not suggesting that we pencil in Burger for anything moving forward, but it's great to see him making his way back after an extremely tough last two years (both physically and mentally). I'm really pulling for the guy even if there are serious doubts that he'll ever become an every day MLB player.

We traded Jarrod Dyson for The rest of our International monies. Is there an updated list of international signings the Sox made during this period. Curious about Norge Carlos Vera specifically. It was reported that there was a deal in place in February when signing opens up in July, but the Sox org. never confirmed it.

I think this deal was supposed to be in the next international signing period (2020-21), which was originally supposed to start in July but got pushed back to January because of the pandemic. I'm pretty sure it's a done deal it just can't be announced yet.

I see. I was a little nervous that since nothing was officially announced and they threw the last of their international monies to the Pirates for Dyson.

Chris Getz gives his thoughts on Blake Rutherford and Garrett Crochet. Also a comment on Andrew Vaughn playing some 3B and OF at Schaumburg. Getz says Rutherford has made the greatest strides among the players at Schaumburg. Too bad there was no MiLB this year to see if players like Rutherford would indeed make necessary improvements.

Blake looked really good this Spring. Some real hang wiffums in between other hard hit balls. Not to mention the obvious body change.

It'll be interesting to see how he does in spring training and the regular MiLB season next year. It seems like he's been a prospect forever, but that's because he was drafted by NYY out of high school. I believe he's younger than Nick Madrigal. He still has a couple of option years left, so it's not like 2021 is the year he must break through to the majors.

Luis Pino could be a good get though he's probably at least 5 years away from wearing a big league uniform.

Even blue chip (equivalent) prospects among kids that young are total gambles. Remember Kevin Maitan, a 16-year old kid Atlanta signed who was cracking T100 lists and drawing comparisons to Miguel Cabrera?

He hit .214 in the Midwest League at 19 and lost his age-20 development year to the pandemic.

Related, here is James Fox's review of the 2019-20 international class.

                              https://www.futuresox.com/2020/10/24...tional-review/

He comes down hard on the Sox for trading away international bonus money last year, which is now making it tougher for them to bring in their top two targets (Cespedes and Colas) this year. It sounds like there's a chance that Colas isn't going to be eligible this year (contract dispute in Japan), so in an ideal world they bring in Cespedes this year and Colas next year. Maybe there's enough for both Cespedes and Pino this year? It would be nice if the Sox made some sort of trade to bring in more international money this year. You'd think that since so many of their best players came in as international signings they would realize the value of investing here, especially since they'll hopefully be picking in the back half of the draft for awhile.
