They lost 10-9 in 12. Sheets was actually playing some RF tonight also. That might come in handy if he continues to hit.

Lambert and Kubat got rocked early but Meideros, Schryer and Burr all pitched well. Tyler Johnson took the loss giving up 2 unearned runs, the first the man placed on second which scored legitimately on a double but the second on an error.

One game does not a prospect’s season make, but the lack of power that Rutherford has shown previously (and Sheets before 2019) was the major knock on him.

If Sheets and Rutherford hit for power this year (and yes, homers come easier at Charlotte), their prospect stock will rise. They could either be helpful to the Sox directly, or in trade.

Rutherford’s blast went opposite field (left center) and was estimated at 416 feet. It was no cheapie, and it looked like he didn’t even get all of it. It’s one game and one swing, but it’s a good sign that his power might finally be arriving.

Sheets’ homer was to his pull side, and went 430 feet to the concourse in right-center.

There isn’t a ballpark anywhere in the majors that would have contained Rutherford’s and Sheets’ homers last night.

If I remember correctly, he was displaying some power early on in spring training last year before Covid shut everything down. It's still a very small sample size, but losing the entire 2020 MiLB season has left us guessing on the progress of prospects like Rutherford. It might seem like Rutherford has been around in the minors forever, but he just turned 24 this week and isn't close to being out of options yet.

Yes, you are correct about all of that. His power has always been the one tool that has the most uncertainty, so for it to develop and show up in game situations would move the outlook from “fringe fourth OF” to “enough bat to stick in a corner for a contender or play CF in a pinch.”

Rutherford with a single, Sheets with a 2-RBI double, and Stiever with 1 hit, 1 walk, and 4 strikeouts through three innings, as the Knights lead 3-0 presently.

Luis Curbelo and Bryce Bush have both homered tonight for Winston-Salem, as the Dash lead 5-2 in the bottom of the third.

James Beard - the speedy CF leadoff hitter - with a grand slam for Kannapolis.

Unfortunately Kelley got rocked in his pro debut, only last 2/3 of an inning and giving up 4 runs (2 earned).

Sheets is crushing the ball. 3 for 5 today with 2 doubles 3 RBI after going 2 for 4 yesterday with the big HR. He's on the 40-man, how long until the call-up?

                            Only half-kidding.
